- Description
- Developed in 2010, Amiri is a digitized naskh typeface designed by Dr. Khaled Hosny that reflects the elegance of traditional Arabic script while catering to modern typesetting needs. Originally based on the typeface pioneered by the Bulaq Press in 1905, Amiri gained fame for its use in printing one of the first typeset-printed editions of the Quran certified by Al-Azhar in 1924. The font comes with four styles: regular, bold, slanted, bold slanted, and two companions for Quranic typesetting. Amiri was released under the SIL Open Font License and developed using free software like FontForge, Inkscape, Python, and VIM.
